Abdominal Surgery or Abdominoplasty is a procedure that obtains very good aesthetic results.
It is the operation that consists of the removal of excess skin and abdominal fat and the correction of muscle flaccidity. The situation of excess skin and relaxation of the abdominal wall usually occurs in patients who have had a great weight gain and subsequent loss or in those women who have had several pregnancies. This surgery achieves a flatter, firmer abdomen and a narrower waist.

aesthetics
surgeryThe ideal candidates for an abdominoplasty are those women or men who have a relatively good figure but are concerned about the accumulation of fat or excess skin in the abdomen that does not improve despite diet or physical exercise.
Usually not. Only in cases which weight loss has not been very important, post bariatric abdominoplasty resembles simple aesthetic abdominoplasty. On the other hand, when there has been a great loss of weight and as a consequence a great excess of excess skin, a "fleur-de-lis" pattern should be practiced, which involves removing skin not only from the top down but also from the sides.
Abdominoplasty is not a risky technique. As in any intervention, some complications may occur, but this is not frequent. In some cases there may be bruising and seroma formation (accumulation of body fluids under the skin), this is easily resolved by guided puncture with ultrasound, which we have in our centre.
It is advisable to rest for a few weeks after the abdominoplasty, it is not necessary an absolute rest , but moderate physical activity is necessary, since part of the intervention consists of closing the muscles in the midline line to make the waist more stylized and for that you have to make a suture that has a healing period of about six weeks. For this reason it is necessary to have moderate physical activity during this period.
In this case it will depend on the excess skin that has to be removed. If the excess is not very large, the incision is made just at the edge of the pubic bone, horizontally, leaving the scar hidden under the underwear. On the other hand, if the excess skin is larger because there has been a massive loss of weight, or because there have been multiple pregnancies, and the "fleur-de-lis" technique is used, the horizontal incision will be combined with a medium vertical incision.

We always carry out a personalised study to eliminate excess skin and fat in our patients, and restore their abdominal wall to give them a more toned appearance. Normally, the results are long lasting but it is essential to maintain a stable weight.
